U.S. EPA Establishes Exemption from Tolerance for Chlorate Residues

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule establishing an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of the pesticide chemical chlorate.
 
Full Update:
According to a notice published in the Federal Register on January 30, 2026 (Document 2026-01902), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a rule to establish an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of chlorate.
 
Under this rule, when the pesticide is used in accordance with the conditions of this exemption, it is not necessary to establish a maximum permissible level for its residues in or on food commodities.
 
This regulation is effective as of January 30, 2026. Objections or requests for hearings must be submitted by March 31, 2026.
